losing touch with reality

My recent post how dumb do feminists need to be? and a recent post at The Knight and Drummer, The Survivability of Men and Women both deal with the issue of feminists being hopelessly out of touch with reality. It’s not just a problem with feminists though. It’s more and more a problem with our whole society.

As an example, there has always been a city-country divide. City dwellers have always despised rural folk. And city dwellers have always been a little vague as to how reality actually works. They have a vague notion that food comes from farms but they’re pretty sketchy on the details. They probably know that milk comes from cows, but they’ve almost certainly never seen an actual cow. The fact that farming is hard work undoubtedly never occurs to them. It is very unlikely that any city dweller realises just how dangerous an occupation farming is.

That city-country thing has always existed of course. But there are other divides that are just as dramatic, and becoming more dramatic. Middle-class urbanites generally have no notion whatsoever that they are dependent on nasty horrid working class people for their very existence. They assume that when you flick a switch you get electricity, and when you turn the tap you get clean fresh water. They do not comprehend that such miracles only occur because blue-collar workers labour night and day to keep them happening.

Middle-class urbanites also never stop to wonder how all that food and other stuff gets onto the shelves at the supermarket. They remain blissfully unaware that some dreadful working-class man drives the truck that brings those things to the supermarket.

They have no comprehension of the full extent of their dependency. If those blue-collar workers weren’t there for even a brief period it would be more than just an inconvenience. Within a few days people would start dying, In large numbers. Middle-class city dwellers would start dying. A city without electricity, running water and trucks to deliver food would become a very very unpleasant place very quickly.

The things that blue-collar workers do for a living tend to be the things that keep us all alive. The things that a large proportion of those urban middle-class people do for a living are often entirely useless. What would happen if all the sociologists, psychologists, investment counsellors, financial advisors, insurance brokers, diversity officers, advertising execs, aromatherapists, interior decorators and social workers disappeared? The answer is that it would have no effect on society whatsoever. Life would go on. The same applies to the majority of bureaucrats.

It’s not just that women in the workforce generally contribute little or nothing productive to society. A very large chunk of middle-class males don’t contribute anything either.

This has become more pronounced as we have moved towards being a service economy, as distinct from an economy that actually makes stuff. The great thing about a service economy is that you end up with a situation where the majority of people do entirely useless jobs. They are mere drones, supported by a small number of men (yes, men) who do the work that keeps everybody else alive.

And the drones develop an extraordinary detachment from reality. They don’t even know of the existence of the people keeping them alive.

urbanisation, decadence and western decline

An overlooked factor in the decline of the West over the past two hundred years is urbanisation.

Urbanisation lowers inhibitions. You can get away with degenerate behaviour that you could never get away with in a small rural community. The anonymity of urban life makes it easy to abandon all the time-honoured rules of decorum. Adultery and other sexual misconduct will earn social disapproval in a small town or village. In a city no-one will care.

And no matter how esoteric your perversion might be you’ll find someone in a big city with whom to share it.

Now of course we have the internet, and social media, so urban degeneracy is available to everyone. The entire world is now effectively urbanised.

City life is remote from unpleasant realities. In a rural community it’s difficult to avoid manual work, and a good deal of rural work is dangerous. In the city it’s easy to avoid getting your hands dirty.

Cities turn men into soy boys. The lowering of inhibitions turns women into sluts.

The more urbanised a society is the more decadent it will become. It’s no coincidence that we’re approaching peak decadence at the same time that we’re approaching peak urbanisation.

Manchester: the price of decadence and folly

There isn’t really much I can say about the Manchester attack that hasn’t already been said. One thing that does need to be emphasised over and over again though is that multi-culturalism is only part of the problem and it’s mostly a symptom. It’s not the underlying disease.
These attacks are happening because western society has become both decadent and irrational.
Maybe decadence is just a natural stage in societal evolution. In this case I’m not convinced. This seems to be deliberately engineered decadence. Everything that gives a society strength and stability has been systematically undermined. Our men have been emasculated and our women have become virtue-signaling harpies.
And pop culture, especially pop music, has played a major role in this. It has been one of the major weapons used to demoralise and degrade us.
We don’t fight back because we believe that holding hands and singing Imagine and lighting candles are the best ways to confront problems. And of course hashtags. Hashtags can solve just about any problem.
Irrationality also has a great deal to do with this. This whole problem could have been  easily avoided but our leaders (and this includes the leaders of every western country) failed to do so. Whether this was from malice or stupidity is hard to say. I’m inclined to think it was a bit of both. Combining open borders with a crazed interventionist foreign policy can only lead to disaster.
At the moment we have a wasps’ nest in our back yard. It’s been there for quite a while and every day we see the wasps busily going back and forth to their nest. The wasps are busy doing wasp things and they ignore us. They haven’t been any problem at all. There are two reasons why they haven’t been a problem. Firstly we don’t invite the wasps into our house. We don’t put up a sign on the door saying Wasps Welcome. They have their territory and we have ours. The second reason is that we don’t go poking their nest with sticks. That would be foolish and it would be unjust. We’re happy to recognise their right to exist, as long as they stay outside.
There’s a lot to be said for this as an approach to foreign policy. Leave the wasps in their own country and don’t go poking their nests with sticks.
Decadent societies tend not to survive. Societies that are both decadent and foolish have very little chance. We’re lucky in some ways. Our decadence is deliberately engineered so we can halt the slippery slide and maybe even reverse it, at least a little. Foolish foreign policies can be abandoned.
Our leaders have let us down. We have to find a way to let them know that their failures will no longer be tolerated. It’s not going to be easy but a good start would be to stop with the candles and the John Lennon songs.

The decadent West – is it in terminal decline?

A Political Refugee From the Global Village quotes an article from the state-controlled Chinese news agency Xinhua claiming that the decadent West is in terminal decline. One of the commenters asked why things like out-of-wedlock births and homosexual marriage should be considered to be evidence of decadence. I’ve thought about it and I’ve come up with answer.
Homosexual marriage is sterile. Sterility is a hallmark of decadence. Recognising homosexual marriage means recognising a marriage that cannot produce children. It means voting No to the future. It is a vote for death. Cultural death, national death, even spiritual death. A society that embraces its own death is most assuredly decadent.
As for out-of-wedlock births, if a couple takes on the responsibility of having a child, the biggest responsibility there is, and they can’t even be bothered to make enough of a commitment to each other to get married, they are also voting No to the future. It is an indication of a lack of belief in the future. They are not creating a real family, merely a collection of individuals in a temporary association, an association that can be terminated at any time on the grounds of boredom or inconvenience or mere whim. This is the endgame of liberalism – a vote for cultural death.
The argument can be applied to just about every feature of our modern society. Stupefying oneself with drugs is saying No to the future.
Our frighteningly low birth rates are an obvious sign of our culture’s embrace of a death cult.
Feminism, an ideology of women who hate themselves for being female and an ideology that seeks to encourage men to hate themselves for being men, is ultimately sterile, negative, self-pitying and self-destructive. Decadent.
The idea of men who think they’re women and women who think they’re men inevitably leads to further sterility. There people are not going to vote for the future by having children. Decadent.
I remember many years ago watching Kenneth Clark’s television series Civilisation. Lord Clark made the point that the transition from barbarism to civilisation could be traced in the buildings they produced. The European Dark Ages produced virtually no buildings that have survived because a society that has no belief in its future produces buildings of a purely temporary nature. There was a huge change around about the twelfth century. Suddenly Europeans were creating buildings, the medieval cathedrals, that are still standing today. They are still standing today because they were built to last. They were built by a society that had confidence that it had a future. In other words, a civilisation. Even more significantly, these cathedrals could take a century or more to be completed. The men who began their construction would never live to see them completed but they built them anyway because they had absolute confidence that the cathedrals would be finished by the following generations. This shows an extraordinary level of faith in the future.
A society that has not developed sufficiently to have confidence in its future is in a state of barbarism. A civilisation that has lost its belief in the future and has embraced its own death is in a state of decadence.
Families are like cathedrals. They require faith in the future. If you have that confidence you will want a real family built on the foundation of marriage. You are building something for future generations.
Feminism, homosexual marriage, out-of-wedlock births, pornography (the ultimate in sterility), the drug culture, celebrity worship, disastrously low birth rates, the voluntary submission to population replacement through immigration – this is serious death cult stuff. These are unmistakeable signs of a decadent society, if not in its terminal stages then certainly in serious danger of entering the terminal stages.
